FeedHenry Launches New Version of Mobile App Platform to Accelerate Enterprise Return on Mobility
FeedHenry 3’s Major Updates Include New Collaborative Workflows, Bring-Your-Own-Toolkit Approach and New API Discovery Capabilities
BURLINGTON, MA — APRIL 29, 2014 — FeedHenry, provider of the industry’s leading open standards based mobile application platform, today announces the launch of FeedHenry 3, the latest version of its mobile cloud offering with significant new features around its core mBaaS and API management, role-based development, team collaboration and support for a wide range of app development frameworks including Backbone, Angular and Xamarin. FeedHenry 3 accelerates the development and deployment life cycle, helping enterprises seamlessly create and manage company-wide mobile app projects. The new features are in response to feedback from major enterprises, now in their third or fourth cycle of mobile app development. These companies are building app factories and engaging offshore teams to meet demand for mobile solutions, speed development and time to market, and lower the cost of each new mobility project.
“The reality is that mobility projects are no longer the sole remit of IT, and have become much more complex to manage and scale,” said Cathal McGloin, CEO of FeedHenry. “FeedHenry 3 addresses many of the challenges companies face as they become mobile first. We’re making it easier for multiple business units and IT to collaborate on mobile app development – allowing the business to innovate on mobile while IT supports the centralized control of security, policy management and backend integration.”
FeedHenry 3 deploys an open, scalable architecture leveraging the cloud and RESTful APIs that make mobile app development more agile, sustainable and affordable than current industry standards. FeedHenry 3’s key features include:
- New Collaborative Workflows Supporting Agile Development and Deployment — FeedHenry 3’s collaborative approach recognizes the different roles in app development and management across both in-house and external teams. Administrators have visibility and control over multiple authentication levels. Role-based development also allows separate client-side development and backend integration, with DevOps-enabled functionality for cloud deployment. Each app and cloud backend within a project also has its own Git repository.
- A “Bring Your Own Tools” Approach — FeedHenry 3 supports native software developer kits, hybrid Apache Cordova, HTML5 and has been extended to include cross-platform toolkits Sencha Touch, Xamarin and Appcelerator. In addition, re-usable templates, app forms and out-of-the-box connectors allow for faster creation of apps and prototyping. Developers can build hybrid apps not only for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, but also web apps accessible from any browser.
- Enhanced MBaaS & API Discovery – Using RESTful APIs that can be created and managed from within the platform, FeedHenry 3 empowers users to extend mobile app capabilities far beyond the device. Developers have access to self-help capabilities and self-discovery of APIs and can create their own backend APIs in Node.js to share them across multiple projects. Flexible service-based architecture makes these APIs available for re-use, and administrators can report on usage and performance.
“RESTful APIs have become the new standard for how software and devices interact,” said McGloin. “Traditionally, API Management has been all about control. With FeedHenry 3, our goal is to make APIs more accessible so developers to allow businesses to quickly and easily develop apps with the scalability that the cloud affords.”
“Our research shows that enterprises are coming to expect service and platform vendors to offer more collaborative and integrated workflows to help developers, non-developer line-of-business teams and project owners work more effectively together,” said Chris Marsh, principal analyst at Yankee Group. “The leading mobile app platforms will be characterized by open and extensible architectures, an API management and data orchestration layer, extensive developer libraries, agnosticism to tools, infrastructures and standards, integrated testing and analytics and a rich ecosystem.”
